BOOM!
Another barrage falls from the sky,
Will I live or will I die?
The horrid whistle sounds overhead,
a lieutenant yells, "Get out of the trench or you'll all be dead!"
My mind is racing,
my heart is pacing,
the ground covered with casing.
CLACK!
The machine gun's constant crackling,
the mind emotionally shackling.
You just continue and charge on,
but the next second you could be gone.
Will the attack prevail?
Or will it come to no avail?
You scream,
the enemy beams.
He has you in his sight,
You yell, "Please God, not tonight!"
The shalls now are landing,
but your instncts keep commanding.
You just push on,
and fight your way to dawn.
BANG!
You've been hit,
you fall, then lie in a pit.
You begin to ponder,
Will I stay alive longer?
Enemies around you fall,
Did they too sacrifice for a call?
You wonder,
When will I go under?
The ground around you is puddled red,
you close your eyes and thoughts fill your head.
You've seen the light for the last time,
your internal clock begins to chime.
It yearns "midnight",
your breath becomes shallow, tight.
You take your last breath,
expecting death.
Then you feel it come,
your heart loses its drum.
And now you die,
your heart and body with no more try.
